For fans of both Origins and Awakening, Leliana’s Song is a must buy for anyone who is curious to find out the history of Leliana. The DLC is somewhat short, but it is satisfying for anyone who wants to spend more time in Dragon Age: Origins. Let’s hope we will get more of this kind of downloadable content from Bioware in the future.

Dragon Age had me really get in touch with my inner D&D, and the Awakening expansion pack just furthers it. Being able to level up higher, finding and using rare and powerful equipment, and fighting the Darkspawn, this expansion pack adds to the fun. The over-13 hours of new gameplay may sound short but it is just enough to add on to the experience.

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening is an expansion that will please those who enjoyed the original game, although many would probably have preferred a tighter integration into the original's story particularly in the area of the decisions made by the player in the first game.

Dragon Age Origins: Awakening is a great extention to the experience; there isn’t a doubt about that. However, it’s a great piece of content because it is simply a story, inventory and character expansion on the original title, which was already great. Still, it falls a little on the short side, clocking in at around ten to fifteen hours, twenty if you’re a perfectionist.

All in all, Awakening is a fun title for those who’ve endured the original, but those new to the series will probably take a pass. Despite some bugs, stale companions and rehashed enemies, Awakening offers new armor, weapons and skills, as well as an interesting and well-paced story that’s long enough to justify the price tag.

Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening is exactly what a proper expansion pack should be. With 15 hours of story, new spells and talents, and new areas to explore you’re getting a great deal for $40. Awakening will set the standards for future additional content, especially in BioWare RPGs. While Return to Ostagar was hit-or-miss, any Dragon Age fan shouldn’t miss out on this very solid expansion.

Compared to the original Dragon Age: Origins, Awakening doesn’t offer the same kind of outstanding value–$40 for under 20 hours of questing, as opposed to the 50-plus hours of the $50 main game. Yet the length is nothing to sneeze at, particularly when the questing is this involving. Your objectives are typical role-playing tropes–fetch a plant, kill some demons, seek out the apostate mages–but good quest writing gives them context, and improved art design makes some of the environments fun to explore.

In spite or perhaps because of all that’s been said so far, the decision to pick up Awakening is fairly cut-and-dry. Those who liked Origins and were chomping at the bit for a second playthrough before the credits finished rolling probably have this already. Those turned off by the samey sidequests and endless dungeons may find Awakening more forgiving, if only because the expansion keeps a closer eye on the clock.

In this day and age, we tend to expect expansion packs and DLC to either eclipse their parent title, or - and this is much more likely, wallow in mediocrity and downright failure. Developers have spoiled gamers, add ons like Mask of the Betrayer, The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Secret Armory of General Knoxx are outright better than the original games, to the point where the vanilla title feels almost worthless without them.

In Awakening, the first large expansion to Origins, players will either continue the role of the Grey Warden they created in Origins, or create a new Grey Warden from scratch. Well, that didn’t take long, did it? Five months after the release of Dragon Age: Origins and we already have content that feels more along the lines of a sequel rather than a half-hearted piece of add-on content. Awakening really expands the storyline by not only opening up a new part of Ferelden to explore, but also bringing back those bastard darkspawn, with a strange new enemy called the Architect leading the way. I’m five minutes into Awakening’s respectable 20-ish hour campaign, and already I’m fighting Darkspawn. This is annoying for two reasons. Firstly, because I spent a good sixty hours or more ensuring that the Blight was ended and that these little buggers wouldn’t be ravaging and killing any more. The $5-15 adventure modules for Dragon Age: Origins are side adventures that add about an hour of gameplay apiece. In the age of DLC, expansions are a tricky proposition. It used to be that any PC developer could throw some new campaign content on a disc, sell if for 20 dollars and call it a day. Now, players expect to see DLC for everything, and the obligations for expansions have increased accordingly. Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening would seem at first glance to fill that role well. Let's remove any confusion from the start. Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening is not another piece of crappy DLC following the dismal inclusions we've seen since the BioWare RPG's release last November. This expansion is 25 hours of full-scale new content, essentially an entire new game, that picks up the story however you may have left it.
